Eat Carrots - a NATURAL source of Beta Carotene
Monday 05th March 2007
It has been claimed that taking certain anti oxidant supplements may not be as beneficial as previously thought, and could actually increase the risk of certain diseases.
Beta carotene, a naturally occurring anti oxidant found in carrots, is one of the supplements that has been highlighted as potentially damaging, and the British Carrot Growers Association (BCGA) want to reassure the public that there is no risk from eating carrots themselves. Indeed, as nutritionists have been quick to point out, this information reinforces the need to eat a balanced diet, rather than relying on supplements.
Beta carotene, when consumed naturally in vegetables such as carrots is an essential part of a healthy diet and has many important properties. David Martin, vice Chairman of the BCGA said this morning ?People can rest assured that when they eat British Carrots they are getting beta carotene in its safest and most natural form.?
So it seems that our mothers were right all along, and that eating fresh fruit and vegetables is the best way to provide our bodies with all the nutrients they need, and in the correct quantities. Keep crunching those carrots for all the benefits, with none of the risks!
